Mike is a laid back guy that is easy to get along with and loves fly fishing. I knew when I looked at the license plate that said “Barbless”, and the dozen fly fishing stickers on his truck that this wasn’t a beginner trip. I took Mike to one of my favorite sections of the Big Thompson where there are a normally some larger fish this time of year. Mike has a great attitude. Being an experienced angler he was still very open to honing in on the fundamentals of fly fishing. I challenged mike to relearn some techniques on handling the fly line while high-sticking, hook setting with the river, and swimming fish upriver to the net.

We had a great time together landing fish on both Nymphs and Dries. Mike even let me catch a couple…what a guy! The fly of the day was a small green RS2 with white wings, and also a Quill bodied BWO dry. Cloud cover was key, when clouds came overhead, Blue Winged Olives hatched and fish eagerly rose to dry flies.
