Robbie came out to have some fun catching fish today. This wasn’t our first time together, but it was Robbie’s first time getting out fishing this year. We worked out some cobwebs with a bunch of nice fish. See a video here: Jumping Brown Trout
The Big Thompson River was a perfect tea color with a midge hatch in the morning, and sporadic Blue Wing Olives hatching throughout the day. Cloud cover was a big influence on the BWO hatch. When clouds were over head BWO’s were hatching and fish were rising. When the sun came out, small RS2’s were a good fly choice. We got to catch a couple nice fish on the dry flies. Most of the fish were on the smaller flies with an occasional take on a green hares ear or prince nymph. There were times when we were just practicing casting technique and fish were jumping on the line. The fish were very active today.
