6/13 Matt from Wisconsin

I could tell by the first cast that Matt had handled a fly rod before; he was smooth, accurate and didn’t overpower the cast.  After a couple drifts the indicator went under, indicating a fish had eaten the fly, and at that moment I realized Matt does a lot of bass fishing : ) Sorry Matt, I had to joke about it.  I was a spinning rod bass fisherman before converting to the fly rod, so it was difficult for me to learn how to not over-set the hook.  How I got myself out of the habit was to set the fly reel drag very loose, and not hold onto the line. That way if I overpowered a hook set, my line would come pealing off the reel, and I would be penalized myself with a big backlash.   Matt and I worked on a couple different ways of fishing, high sticking, getting bigger drifts with a good mend, and fishing pocket water.  We caught a lot of fish, enough to get some videos of Matt catching them.  There were a couple times when Matt looked away and caught a fish…the no-look. I managed to get the No Look on video.  Here is a couple videos of the action:
