Andy wanted to catch some fish and learn about insect life on Boulder creek. We headed uphill from downtown Boulder to a nearby area on Boulder Creek. We seined the river and had an on-water entomology lesson. We say lots of mayflies including Blue Winged Olives, Drakes, dark and light colored common mayflies; there was also an abundance of golden stoneflies. So, we tied on a couple flies that looked similar, a price nymph and a black hares ear, and started fishing. Andy got right into the rhythm of casting and getting a drift with some nymphs and started catching fish. He caught a couple on the nymph and we tried a dry fly for a short while, but the fish didn’t want to come up and eat….it was still early in the morning. We continued on with the nymphs and Andy continued to catch fish.
Andy caught some nice native cutthroat trout and brook trout.
